Most of what goes wrong in an organization goes wrong because someone mistook a signal for the truth beneath it — a dashboard that looks healthy, a study that reads as rigorous, a process everyone agrees is fine. Getting past the signal to what's actually there is the discipline I've spent two decades building. It starts before the first handshake, and it doesn't stop for comfort.
